Mark Tan Zyi's heading back to the UK for his studies. It's been good to catch up with him this "summer holiday". We had a good time lunching at Harvest Thai with some of the other ex-CCMC youth. He and his brother Shawn, attended MGS founder's day with my friends and I.
Mark's father, Alex is one of my mentors. I've known the whole family for close to 13 years now. Since I started attending church regularly on my own after "A" levels. Alex didn't just teach me how to play music in a band, but he taught me many of life's lessons as well. He and his wife, Lilian have always treated me with patience, candour, grace and love. I've been very blessed by this wise family.
Conversation with Mark revolved around the usual: Human relationships, Music and the challenges we face as Christians. I'm glad I managed to give Mark some insight about himself! Considering how I've known him since he was in Primary Three, I think I have enough knowledge and experience about what sort of person he is.
Although I must say, I still remain disconcerted about how I have to now refer to him as a young man, rather than a little boy. I constantly ask him, "Mark, how old are you now??! I forgot!" In a way, it doesn't help how his personality hasn't really changed since he was about 10. :-)
I just had a three hour chat with him first at the hawker centre then at his home. In a way, it was like an older sister telling her younger brother, "Take care, I'll miss you!"
