As a Messianic Gentile, otherwise known as a Protestant Christian and specifically a Methodist. I've pondered about the fate of all when we stop breathing, permanently. I believe that there are spirits. I think, it would be naive to think this physical world is the only world that exists.
Ancient cultures all speak about a spiritual realm. Just as there is gravity, there are spirits - in my opinion.
Thankfully, by the grace of God, or the order of the Universe. (whichever appeals to you more) the spiritual realm for the most part does not interfere with our daily living to a point where we are incapacitated to function.
However, the mere existence of the spiritual realm does make me wonder what really happens to us when we expire and face the gates of eternity. I have friends from other faiths/factions/denominations who have different doctrines/theories/philosophies about what happens when we expire.
And this is my PERSONAL take. Not as a Methodist/Protestant/Christian. So this has no theological backing. This is just my opinion, as a human being.
That as intrinsic and intuitive as we know how something is fair or not fair. We will be judged as we wait at the gates of eternity. That we will be measured and weighed on similarly how fair or unfair we were. And that how we live our lives, how we treated others in the Universe, all that we are accountable for.
I cannot believe in a "system" for want of a better word that someone who had lived a life where they treated others in a cruel and inhumane manner and was not remorseful for it at some point in their lives. Someone like that - could be seen as equal to another that lived in a self-sacrificing compassionate and loving way.
