The chinese proverb above can be loosely translated to a scenario where one is able to see another's heart clearly when times are tough.
Currently, I'm in bad shape. I'm down with quite a serious case of food poisoning. Vomitting and diarrhoea. I've not had it so bad since Brisbane in 96.
My midriff is cramping up, I feel weak and I can't even stand up to take a shower. I'm a fairly independent individual but this is one of the times where I really need someone to take care of me. I'm feeling weak, tired and uncharcteristically "manja" / whiny.
However, due to a series of unfortunate coincidences. I had to pretty much take care of myself today. Note to self: next time take a taxi rather than drive to the doctor's when you can hardly stand. Oh well, you know what they always say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Just in the same theme though, I know of a couple where the turning point for them in their relationship was when the guy broke his leg, and the girl took on the role of mother and nurse to him. He was living and working here on his own and essentially had no one to rely on in Singapore. I've never asked him, but I suspect that it was during this time, that he saw exactly how beautiful she was. :-)
The girl is a good friend of mine from the 90s and to be honest, I can see why he took a while to decide that this was the woman for him before he broke his leg.
My friend is a lovely person, but she's a bit of an acquired taste. She's extremely confident and opinionated, and if you're not a confident person, you could get offended with some of the things she says. She's also no pretty sweet thing with the big doe eyes and long smooth hair, but this is one beautiful woman. Her compassion, kindness and generosity of spirit is unrivalled. I met up with her recently at a mutual friend's home, and she's the same. :-)
While she was talking to our mutual friend, I had a quick chat with her now-husband. (they got married about 3 years ago) We were just comparing notes on how naggy she can be about certain things she feels strongly about. And, she hasn't changed! :-)
