Love

The first book I read by C.S. Lewis was "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". I think I read it when I was 10. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Only when I was older, did I notice how some parts of the plot of the book was linked to the Gospel of Christ.

In later years, I read many books by C.S. Lewis, especially when I was in University and starting my work-life. The beauty of his books is that you can read and re-read it again, and you always find gems.

I really enjoy the way he puts across a lot of ideas about the meaning of life, the Universe and God.

"Atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning..." -- Mere Christianity

and about love, I think this one is from "The Problem of Pain"

"To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe dark, motionless, airless -- it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable."

I'd like to put it more succinctly though:

To love is risky. If you choose not to love, eventually you will be irreversibly emotionless and cold.
